小学校低学年のうちは、同学年の生徒の勉強の様子が気になるものです。この時期は、勉強すれば誰でも成績が上がる時期なので、勉強時間によって大きな差がつくように思いがちです。 しかし、低学年のうちの勉強の成績が、高学年になってからの成績につながるわけではありません。高学年の成績は、高学年になってからの勉強によって決まるのです。 高学年になってからの勉強に最も関係の深いのが、勉強に対する肯定的な感情と、自分なりにものを考える姿勢です。 だから、低学年のうちは、読書や作文や対話によって頭と心を育てていくことが大事になるのです。 差のよく見える算数や英語よりも、差の見えない国語が最も大きな差になる
算数や英語や漢字の書き取りは、知識の差がそのまま成績の差になります。だから、低学年のうちでも差がすぐにわかります。しかし、この差は実はほとんど意味のない差です。 一方、日本語の文章を読む力は、日本に暮らしていれば誰でも自然に身についています。だから、低学年のうちは国語の読解力の差はほとんどないように見えます。しかし、この表面に出ない国語の読解力が、最も大きな学力の差になっています。 読解力の差が、国語の成績の差として表れるのは、学習塾の模擬試験などをやるようになってからです。しかし、この時期になると、国語が得意か苦手かはほぼ固定的なものになってしまいます。 学力の差のあまり感じられない低学年のうちに、読む力を十分に育てておくことが大事なのです。 小学生は知識の詰め込みの勉強ではなく、読み、書き、考える勉強を中心に
漢字の書き取りや理科や社会の知識の勉強は答えがはっきりしています。だから、楽しくできる教材が豊富で、勉強もさせやすく、勉強すれば点数が上がるので子供も熱心に取り組みます。 勉強の結果が点数という形で出るので、目標もつい高めに設定するようになり、先生も親も子もつい無理な勉強をしてしまいがちです。 しかし、低学年のうちに知識の勉強をしすぎると、考える力が低下します。問題を考えるよりも先に答えを探すという浅い勉強の姿勢が身についてしまうからです。 低学年の間は、知識の勉強はほどほどにとどめておき、その分、読み、書き、考える勉強に力を入れていく時期なのです。 低学年から親子の対話の習慣をつけ家庭の文化を作ることが一生の財産に
現在の受験勉強は、中学入試、高校入試、大学入試のいずれの試験でも、考える力や書く力を問う問題が出題されるようになってきています。 公立中高一貫校や国公立大の入試では、選択式の問題はほとんどなく、大部分が自分なりに考えて記述する形の問題になっています。 この思考力、表現力を育てるために最も役に立つのが、読書と作文と対話です。特に、親子の対話の習慣は子供の考える力を大きく伸ばし、その子の一生の財産となります。 家族の対話は、子供が小学１年生のころからそのときどきの作文のテーマに関連させて進めていくと、無理なく家庭の文化として定着していきます。 Tweet  郵送無料の
