小学１年生から楽しく始める国語の勉強

　本当の国語力
　本当の国語力とは、読む力と書く力です。漢字、文法、慣用句などは、勉強すれば身につくものです。しかし、学年が上がるにつれて差が開いていくのは読む力と書く力で、これらの力は一朝一夕に身につくものではありません。

　国語力があることの利点
　国語力は、すべての教科の基盤となるものです。算数の文章題が解けないのは読む力が足りないからです。国語が得意な子供は将来英語も得意になります。社会や理科も、学年が上がるにつれて読解力を必要とする問題が増えてきます。
　さらに、中学・高校・大学受験の際、国語力のある子供は非常に有利です。それは、国語で点数を取れるからということだけでなく、試験前に国語を重点的に勉強する必要がないため、他の教科の勉強に集中できるからです。

　国語力をつけるために（言葉の森の勉強法）
　国語力をつけるために必要なのは、読むことと書くことを習慣化することです。言葉の森では、幼稚園年長児から、毎日の音読・読書と週に一度の作文を習慣化させることを目標に勉強を進めています。
　音読は、学年相当よりもやや難解なものを読むと力がつきます。それでも、慣れてしまえば３分程度で音読できます。音読は、読む力と書く力を高めるために欠かせないものです。余裕があれば短文暗唱を加えるとさらに効果的です。
　読書は、小学校中学年までは好きな本を毎日「学年の１０倍」ページ以上読みます。小学校中学年までは、大人による読み聞かせも読書と同じ効果があります。一人で読むことに抵抗がある場合は、読み聞かせでも結構です。
　作文は、毎週、担当の先生からの電話での説明を聞いたあとにすぐ書き始めます。最初のうちは、「今日のこと」などという題名でその日にあったことを順番に思い出して書くだけで構いません。そのたびに完璧な作品を仕上げようとせず、書いたままを提出するだけで十分です。繰り返し書いているうちに、上手な作文のポイントとなる、会話表現、たとえ表現などが身についていきます。さらに、学年が上がると、説明文・論説文を読んで感想文を書く練習も加わり、記述力・表現力とともに、読解力と思考力をつける勉強になります。

　国語の勉強はいつから
　国語力をつけるためには、継続的な勉強が必要です。継続的な勉強とは言っても、音読や読書などを毎日の生活の中で習慣化してしまえば決してむずかしいことではありません。学年が上がってから新しい勉強を習慣化するにはかなりの努力が必要です。しかし、小学校低学年のうちなら自然に身につけることができます。読書や作文に対する好き嫌いがはっきりしてくる小学校中学年になる前に始めるのが理想です。
